Newton explicitly stated that natural philosophy with its underlying mathematical principles were ONE PART ONLY of a much broader and integral wisdom embracing moral philosophy, ethics and DIVINITY.

The mechanical philosophy separates out and eliminates spirit from the workings of Nature explaining these workings by INERT particles in motion. The esoteric philosophy and alchemy, by contrast, are concerned with active principles, influences, regarding Nature as a LIVING being, instead of a machine, and explains phenomena by the active agency of powers or GodS, or spirit and all manifestation by the interaction of feminine and masculine principles, or in scientific terms, the inward, centre-seeking CONTRACTING Force; and the outgoing EXPANDING Force.
A dynamic balance between a mechanical philosophy and an Esoteric/Alchemical Philosophy. Whereas the mechanical, perforce, denies the participation of Spirit asserting that matter alone is responsible for the ultimate reality and consciousness is a byproduct of matter, the Esoteric /Alchemical Philosophy not only asserts, but proves not just the participation of Spirit, but the very primacy of Spirit, whose active principles are the noumenon for matter regarded as the phenomenonal aspect of spirit. Obviously therefore, science based as it is on a rational mechanical philosophy can only describe the outer details whereas the Esoteric philosophy deals with the inner vital principle of LIFE which is not irrational but supra-rational.
